Holly Gets into Strife

Holly, an 11-week-old American Bulldog puppy, went investigating one day and her owners found her with her head stuck down a household drain. Her head was in pain, swollen and she had some difficulty breathing. She was taken to her regular vet, where she was treated with oxygen and medications and she improved significantly.

Holly’s vet recommended that she be monitored overnight at the local Animal Emergency Centre. On presentation at the AEC, Holly was found to be quiet although she had increased lung sounds, increased respiratory rate, and mildly increased heart rate. She remained in hospital overnight on an intravenous drip and her oxygen levels were closely monitored.

She continued to improve and by the morning she was a bright, happy puppy again and back to eating and playing. We hope this teaches her that drains and heads do not mix!
