The first Animal Emergency Centre (AEC) at Mount Waverley was founded in 1975 when a group of Melbourne Veterinary Practitioners decided that a better facility was required to serve their clients when in need of emergency treatment.
The AEC's extended service ensures suitable vet care is available in the hours regular vet clinics are not operational. From humble beginnings the AEC now has 3 locations - Mount Waverley, Hallam and Frankston.
The AEC has a staff of around 70 dedicated veterinary people ( including 30 veterinarians who work around the clock). The AEC sees thousands of animals each year - whether they are brought in directly or referred for special treatment by veterinary clinics.
AEC centres are equipped with a full range of diagnostic tools of trade and protocols are regularly updated to ensure all referred patients are treated with the latest knowledge.
Any owner who elects to come into or is referred to the AEC can be assured that their special companion will be cared for - always, 24/7.

Costs & Payments
Unlike some human emergency services, the AEC receives no government subsidies. Our clinics are entirely funded by the income we generate and our fees are carefully set to ensure that we can provide all of the necessary resources to provide for the needs of distressed animals.
The Animal Emergency Centre accepts most payment options including cash, Visa, Mastercard and Amex. We do not accept Diners Club Card.
Accounts must be finalised on discharge of your pet. We require a deposit of a minimum of 50% of the estimated cost prior to admission for all hospitalised patients. Further deposits may be requested for patients staying greater than 24 hours.
